The experience

About this trip

Leave the coast behind on a 4x4 adventure into the Souss-Massa pre-desert. We follow the coastal road past fishermen's villages, scan the Massa lagoon for flamingos and other migratory birds, then trade tarmac for sand as we reach the small dunes where the Sahara edges closest to the Atlantic. There is time to walk the dunes, take photos and drink mint tea with a Berber family before the drive back.

It is the fastest, most comfortable way to taste the desert without an overnight camp.

Frequently asked questions

Will we see flamingos?

Flamingos and other migratory birds are most visible from roughly November to March, but the lagoon always has wildlife.

Is it a real desert?

It is the pre-desert — rolling dunes meeting the Atlantic. Dramatic and photogenic, but not deep Sahara.
